Access - visible progress

Thanks to the grant from Rastrick Big Local, which was voted for by the substantial majority of Rastrick residents, and the many contributions by individuals - both cash and in kind - Calderdale Council agreed to meet our long held ambition of access for all to Rastrick Library.

The area round the war memorial was readied for remembrance celebrations in November.
The ramp, though not quite complete yet, became useable during the December break and is now the means of access to the library. The alternative flight of steps is currently under construction.

The original steps up to the door are actually buried within the new construction so could be restored if that were ever wished.

It is intended that the internal doors to the foyer will be converted to automatic operation.

Work to restore the sunken garden will follow in due course.

About Friends of Rastrick Library

We are a group set up to encourage the local community to make the best use of the library and its facilities and resources. We are working towards improving the disabled access into the Grade II Listed Building, by fundraising and organising events.
